Used to swear by my heavy coleman stove until someone pointed out the obvious

A guy on the PCT told me I was carrying an extra 8lbs for no reason when I could just boil water on a little isobutane can. Swapped to a BRS-3000T and my pack feels way better after 3 trips.

Wait, do you mostly do overnight trips or is it more weekend stuff? I get the weight thing, I really do, but there's something to be said for having a stove that doesn't feel like a toy when the wind kicks up. I took a BRS out on a rainy trip and it took forever to boil a cup of water, plus the flame kept sputtering. My old coleman is heavy but it's a tank, I can cook a real meal without babysitting it. Plus if you're out for more than a few days, those little isobutane cans add up in trash and cost. For me the extra weight is worth not freezing my ass off waiting for water to heat.

the BRS is notorious for being awful in any kind of wind, I've had the same thing happen. what saved me was making a windscreen out of an old baking sheet cut into strips works way better than any fancy one you can buy and costs nothing. also if you're doing longer trips look into a cat can stove or a diy alcohol setup, they're dead simple and you can find fuel just about anywhere. my go-to for winter trips is a white gas msr but that's a whole different animal.
