Unpopular opinion: I used to pack a huge mess kit for every trip
For years I'd bring a full pot, pan, and plates, but after a 5-day hike in the Adirondacks last fall I switched to a single 750ml titanium mug for everything. The weight savings and cleanup speed totally changed my approach to camp cooking. What's one piece of gear you've completely stopped bringing?

That mug-only life is the real deal. I did the same switch after a trip where my old pot handle snapped off. @brian_ramirez is right about quilts too, that's another huge space saver. The trick is to nest a small fuel canister inside the mug to keep your whole cook kit compact.

That titanium mug switch sounds like a game changer. I went through something similar with my sleeping bag, used to carry this huge synthetic one for years. Switched to a down quilt and it cut my sleep system weight in half, plus it packs down so small now. What made you finally decide to try the single mug setup?
