That dude on trail 6 who swore by a tarp over a tent
I ran into this older guy near the Nolichucky River who said skip the tent and just use a 10x10 tarp for 3-season camping. I tried it last weekend in decent weather and honestly stayed dry and packed way lighter. Anybody else find tarps more practical than a tent for solo trips?

Ha! Buddy of mine did that near Damascus. Woke up with a copperhead in his bag.

@martin.paige That's EXACTLY the kind of thing that would happen to me. I once fell asleep in a hammock near the Shenandoah River and woke up with a daddy longlegs crawling across my face. Not quite a copperhead but still scared the life out of me. At least your buddy got a good story out of it though.
