My $120 'waterproof' tent turned into a pool last weekend
I bought this tent at a big box store near Portland because the seam tape looked solid and the price was right. Got it set up at Silver Falls and it rained maybe 3 hours that night, woke up with my sleeping bag soaked and about an inch of water pooled near my feet. Checked the fly after I got home and the coating is flaking off inside, which made no sense since I only used it 5 times. Anyone else had cheap tents fail this fast, or should I just cough up for a known brand next time?

Was it really the tent though, or did you pitch it in a low spot? Silver Falls gets soggy and water runs downhill fast, so an inch by your feet could just be rain pooling under the floor. Five uses is nothing, but coating flaking inside is weird unless it sat in a hot car or got stored damp. For 120 bucks you got a 120 buck tent, and known brands start around 200 for something that actually keeps rain out.
