Switched to ultrasonic cleaning for lens elements and shocked myself
Used to hand scrub every element with lens cleaner and a microfiber cloth, took forever and left streaks. Tried a cheap ultrasonic tank last month with distilled water and a drop of dish soap - did a full set of 8 elements in 12 minutes with zero residue. Anyone else make the switch and find it ruined them for the old way?

Zero residue" is real with the ultrasonic method, I swear. For your buddy's scratched Nikon lenses though, tell him to try a soft toothbrush (new one, obviously) on the barrel threads and elements next time before any scrubbing - that gets the grit out so you don't grind it into the glass. Also, if he hasn't already, a tiny bit of lighter fluid on a q-tip can sometimes buff out light scratches from microfiber mishaps.

It's wild how once you find a better way to do something tedious, you can't believe you ever did it the hard way. Feels like that with a lot of chores once you hit on a smarter shortcut.

Zero residue" sounds like a dream. My buddy tried the hand scrub method on his vintage Nikon lenses and ended up with a fine scratch collection and a permanent grudge against microfiber.
