Soldering station vs hot air rework station for board level stuff
I finally caved and bought a hot air station after 3 years of just using a cheap soldering iron for flex cable repairs. Picked a Yihua 858D for like 60 bucks off Amazon and honestly I should have done this WAY sooner. It let me salvage a sensor flex from a Canon 5D Mark II that I would have trashed otherwise because the old solder just wouldn't flow right. My iron kept lifting the pads but the hot air got the part off clean in about 20 seconds. Anyone else run into issues with board repairs where hot air just saves the day, or do you stick with a good iron for everything?
