Is a $60 ultrasonic cleaner a must or a scam for lens rings?
Honestly, I dropped 60 bucks on a small ultrasonic cleaner to strip stubborn haze off a vintage lens ring and it fried the paint in about 4 minutes, total burn. But then I saw a repair guy in Denver swear by the same unit with a distilled water and soap mix for his shutters, so maybe I used it wrong. Anyone else find these things save time on grime or just cause new damage, and what liquid actually works for you?
Four minutes is all it took to strip the paint? That is wild, I always figured those tanks were gentle enough to leave finish alone. Guess the heat and the solution matter more than the machine itself, which is why that Denver guy's soap mix probably worked while yours ate the ring alive.
