My claims adjuster said not to bother with a QME, and that cost me about $9k
Ngl I listened to my claims adjuster back in March when she said a QME was a waste of time and I should just take the offer on the table. Turns out she had zero reason to steer me right, and the settlement she pushed was around $9k less than what a QME later valued my back injury at. I only found this out because a guy at my union hall in Fresno pulled me aside and asked why I never requested one. By then the 30 day window to object to the offer had come and gone. If your adjuster is suddenly real friendly and telling you to skip steps, get a second opinion from an actual workers comp attorney. Has anyone else had an adjuster talk them out of a QME?
Ah yes, the classic "trust me, I'm on your side" from the person whose paycheck literally depends on you taking less. A $9k swing on a back injury and she's out here acting like a QME is just a spa day you can skip, that is wild. Fresno union halls don't lie either, that guy did you a solid even if it was too late. My favorite part is the "real friendly" act, because nothing says buddy like someone quietly hoping you never find out you got lowballed by five figures. That 30 day window is a sneaky little trap too, blink and your objection rights are gone. Next time an adjuster offers advice, remember they're not your friend, they're just really good at pretending.
