Found out the claims adjuster gets paid a bonus for closing my case fast, and nobody I know believed me
I always figured the adjuster was just lazy, but last month a friend who used to work at a big carrier in Rancho Cordova let it slip that they get scored on how fast they close files, and speed is literally part of their review. She pulled up her old numbers and said a claim that drags past 90 days starts hurting them, so that first lowball offer you get around week 4 is not random at all. I've been on my own claim since a forklift rollover at a warehouse in Stockton back in March, and I turned down $14,200 because my back still is not right. Everybody I talk to keeps saying just take the money and move on, but that number was gone in 6 weeks of lost pay alone. The thing that got me was finding the DWC published stats showing most claims settle without anyone ever asking for a second opinion, which tells me the system counts on us being tired. My buddy said the average adjuster is juggling 130 to 150 open files at once, which honestly explains a lot of the radio silence. I am not saying every adjuster is out to get you, your mileage may vary, but I am done signing anything the week it shows up in the mail. Has anybody here actually pushed back on that first offer and gotten a real second number, or am I just making this harder on myself?
