The wood stove chimney cap I put off fixing for 2 winters finally clogged with creosote at 11pm on a Sunday
I was in the cabin up near Hayward and the smoke just started rolling back into the living room instead of going up the pipe. Turned out the cap screen was caked solid with creosote and a bird had built a nest right on top of it. I shut the damper, cracked two windows, and slept in the truck in the driveway because the whole place smelled like a campfire. Now I scrub that cap every October before the first burn and it takes me 15 minutes instead of ruining a night. How often are you all pulling your caps to check them?
