Update: my $45 rice cooker from a garage sale in Toledo outlasted my $180 one, and I feel like a fool
Three years back I grabbed a basic rice cooker at a garage sale in Toledo for $45 because it was still in the box, and the guy selling it said his mom used the same model for a decade without a single problem. Meanwhile my fancy $180 cooker with 12 settings and a digital display died 14 months in, right after the warranty ran out, of course. The cheap one just has one switch that clicks down and pops up, and it has made rice almost every week since 2021 without a hiccup. So now I want to know, what is the dumbest cheap thing you own that just refuses to die while your expensive version sits in the trash?
Cheap stuff wins every time. My $12 drugstore hair dryer from like 2015 outlived two $80 ones that died within a year each. The expensive ones had all these buttons and heat settings and the motor just gave out. Sometimes simple is just better.
