The $15 thrift store cast iron pan that outlasted my $80 nonstick

Picked up a rusty Lodge at a garage sale in Akron for 15 bucks, spent an hour scrubbing it with salt and oil. Three years later it's still my daily driver, eggs slide off it like glass while my fancy nonstick started peeling after 8 months. Anyone else swear by old iron over the new coated stuff?

Oh man, I read this whole thing about how nonstick coatings break down at high heat and release fumes that can make you sick. Yikes. My mom still uses the Griswold pan her grandma bought in the 40s, and that thing is slicker than anything I've bought new. I had a buddy who spent 90 bucks on a fancy ceramic pan and it stuck worse than my 12 dollar Walmart special by month two. The old iron just needs a little love and it keeps going forever. Take this with a grain of salt, but I've never seen a stainless steel pan last like that either.
