My supplier offered a discount for overlooking faulty products
This supplier I've used for years suddenly offered me a huge discount on a batch of goods. The catch was, some items were clearly defective (like, not up to standard at all). I had to decide between saving money or sticking to my quality promise to customers. It was tough, but I chose to reject the shipment. Now I'm scrambling to find a new supplier, but at least my conscience is clear.

That wasn't a discount, that was a bribe.

My buddy in the auto parts business took one of those discounts on a pallet of gaskets. He figured he could sort out the bad ones himself. A month later, his shop was full of angry customers with leaking engines. The refunds and lost business cost him way more than that discount saved. He told me it was the dumbest short-cut he ever took.
