My black ink bleed ruined a two week spread last night
Had this nice new mildliner brush pen and it went straight through 5 pages of my Leuchtturm, now I gotta figure out if I just use gesso or find a different notebook brand that can actually handle a little water.

Oh gosh, I've been there with the exact same pen and notebook combo! The Mildliner brush is no joke, it's basically a watercolor pen pretending to be a highlighter. Before you go buying gesso and making a whole art project out of it, try using a piece of scrap paper or a plastic sheet between the pages when you write. I do that with my Leuchtturms now after a similar bleed ruined a monthly spread, it buys you some protection without changing the whole notebook feel. Also, if you really love that brush pen, consider switching to a Tomoe River paper notebook like the Hobonichi or Nanami, they handle wetter media way better without bleeding through. The gesso route works too but it changes the paper texture and takes forever to dry, in my experience it's more trouble than it's worth for everyday journaling.
