Found out my favorite hammer weighs 4 ounces more than I thought for 8 years

Ngl I was cleaning out my tool bag last weekend and decided to weigh all my hammers on a shipping scale. Turns out my go-to 16 ounce framing hammer actually weighs 20.4 ounces with the handle wrap and grip tape I added. I have been swinging that thing for 8 years thinking it was standard weight. Found the stat on a random tool forum thread from 2014 where a guy broke down exact weights with different grips. It explained why my elbow started hurting after long days of nailing. Has anyone else accidentally customized their gear into a totally different spec than intended?

Oh man, that's wild! I did the same thing with my favorite fishing rod once. Had it rigged up with a heavier line and a big reel for years, then found out the original specs said it was a light-action trout rod. Something about small changes really adds up over time!

Something about small changes really adds up over time" - does it though? I mean yeah, maybe if you're doing 500 lug nuts a week like that person, sure. But a fishing rod? You're casting what, maybe 50-100 times in a day if you're really going at it? Unless you're some pro angler pulling in nets all day, I feel like the difference between a slightly heavier reel and a lighter one is more in your head than in your wrist lol. I've got a buddy who swears his carpal tunnel got better when he switched to a lighter mouse at work. Two weeks later he was back on the old one cause he missed the weight. People just like having a story for why their joints hurt.

Ate up half a day on a truck scale once weighing out all my impact sockets cause I was curious. Turns out my deep well 3/4" was 2.3 ounces heavier than the standard one I had, just from a thicker wall on the socket. That extra weight added up over 500 lug nuts a week, started messing up my wrist after a few months. Swapped it for a lighter one and the pain went away in like two weeks.
