Shoutout to the guy at Home Depot who saved my wallet on a water heater install
Was at the SCV Home Depot on McBean last Saturday ready to drop $600 on a new water heater cause mine started leaking. This older employee in plumbing waved me over and asked what happened. I told him and he goes "check the drain valve first, kid." Sure enough the valve was just loose and spitting water. Tightened it with a $3 wrench and it's been fine for 2 weeks now. Anyone else had a random stranger save them from a big fix when it was something tiny?

Yeah what is it with those old dudes? They just know. Had a guy at Ace tell me my lawnmower just needed the carb cleaned before I went and bought a new one. Saved me like three hundred bucks.

Went through something similar with my washing machine last year. Had a guy at the local hardware store tell me to check the hose filter before buying a new pump. Saved me like $200 and a whole afternoon of wrestling with plumbing.

That's awesome that the old guy caught that for you. I'm glad you didn't have to drop all that cash for nothing.
