I always thought dried beans were a waste of time, then I did the math on a $1.29 bag
For years I bought canned beans at 89 cents a can because soaking dried ones seemed like too much work. Then money got tight in January and I tried a $1.29 bag of pinto beans that made about 6 cans worth. Soaking them overnight and simmering for 90 minutes gave me the same beans for a fifth of the price, and I actually liked being able to control the salt. Now I keep a bag in the pantry and make a pot on Sunday. What else am I sleeping on that looks like too much work but pays off?
