Can we talk about how overnight oats are NOT budget friendly for most people?

I see overnight oats recommended everywhere as this cheap breakfast. But I tried them for 3 months straight back in 2022 and my grocery bill went up by about $15 a week. You need good jars, chia seeds, maple syrup or honey, quality oats, and some kind of milk alternative if you don't drink dairy. That stuff adds up fast. Meanwhile a dozen eggs cost me $3 and I can scramble two for breakfast each day for a week. Has anyone else found the 'cheap' trendy meals actually cost more than just sticking with basic staples?

And the fancy toppings and nut milks are where they really get you.

Have you tried asking for light ice in your drink at those places? In my experience they tend to give you a bit more of the base drink which helps balance out the cost of extras. Your mileage may vary but it’s worth a shot to keep the total from ballooning.

Man, light ice is the only way to go. I learned that trick years ago and it saves you every time. You get way more actual drink and the toppings still taste fine. Plus the workers usually don't care if you ask nice. It's wild how much those tiny ice cubes can rip you off.
