Update: I changed how I price listings after an estate sale in Philly went sideways
I was at an estate sale in Philly last Saturday. I priced a vintage lamp at $40 thinking it was fair. A guy walked by and said I should have checked the maker mark. Turns out it was a 1920s Handel lamp worth over $300. I sold it for $40 and felt sick. Now I always look up maker marks and check sold comps on eBay before setting a price. Has anyone else had a pricing fail that made you rethink your whole system?

Did you at least check the lamp for a signature before you priced it?

Oh absolutely, I checked it so hard I almost gave myself whiplash. Ngl, I was convinced it was some mid-century modern treasure and that there'd be a faded signature on the base from some famous designer. Turns out it was just a signature from the person who glued the shade on in 1988. So I priced it at $15 and it's still sitting there looking sad. Honestly, should have known better since it smells like cat pee and regret.
