I was at a yard sale in Dayton and saw a guy buy a broken toaster for $2

He told me he fixes them up and sells them online for a small profit. I realized I always look for perfect stuff, but he sees value in things that need a little work. Now I check the 'broken' pile first at any sale or thrift store. Anyone else find good deals on stuff that just needs a simple fix?

Yeah, that's the real move right there. @bens81 gets it, a little cleaning can save you a ton.

Oh man, that's the best way to shop. My best find was a nice coffee maker for a dollar because it "didn't work." Got it home, took it apart, and it just had a huge chunk of old coffee grounds jammed in the pump. Cleaned it out and it's been my daily driver for three years now. Most people just don't want the hassle.

So you're telling me someone paid full price for a new machine when all they needed was a five minute clean? That's like throwing out a car because the ashtray is full.
