Hot take: laying block in 100 degree heat without wetting the units first cost me a whole course
Last Tuesday I was rushing a garage wall in Phoenix and skipped dunking my blocks because the water truck was late. By 2pm the mortar was drying on contact and I had to tear out 14 blocks that had already set up on me. The head joints looked fine from the face side, but when I tapped them with my trowel handle they were hollow and loose. Ended up mixing my mortar wetter and spraying the block down with a hose, which fixed it, but I lost about an hour and a half. Anyone else got a trick for keeping blocks from sucking the water out of mortar when it's triple digits out?
