My cousin's 'pruning' nearly ruined my prize rose bush
If you have family visiting your garden, set clear rules. I let my cousin trim my roses and he cut them back too far, now they might not bloom this season.

Did you actually show him where to make the cuts or just say "prune the roses"? I learned the hard way you gotta be super specific. I literally put little pieces of blue tape on the canes I want kept now. Or even better, take a picture and draw on it with a marker to show the exact height. Some people just don't have a feel for it.

You really think it needs to be that exact? Maybe some folks just don't care as much about the plants.

My wife won't even let me deadhead the marigolds after I butchered her hydrangea, so I get where @margaret_rodriguez is coming from! Some of us just don't have the green thumb gene.
