My botany professor said my field notes were useless, so I changed one thing
Last semester I showed my plant ID notebook to my professor at UC Davis and she flipped through it for maybe 10 seconds. She said 'this is just a list of names, where are the leaves?' I had 40 pages of nothing but species names and dates. She told me to stop writing what I already knew and start sketching what I actually saw, even badly. So for 3 months I sketched every leaf margin and vein pattern, about 60 plants total. My quiz scores went from C's to A's because I could actually picture the plant instead of memorizing a word. Does anyone else keep a sketch journal, or do you use photos on your phone?
