Just realized I was watering my ferns all wrong for 2 years

A lady at the garden center told me I was drowning my Boston ferns because I watered them every day. She said to wait until the soil feels dry an inch down, not just spray the leaves. I switched to that method about 3 months ago and now they actually look green instead of yellow and droopy. Has anyone else had a simple habit change like this totally fix a plant?

My snake plant was looking pathetic for like a year and a half until I figured out I was overwatering it. I had it on a strict weekly schedule because that's what I read online, but my apartment is super humid so the soil never dried out fast enough. I stopped watering it entirely for about 6 weeks out of frustration and it actually pushed out three new leaves. Now I only water it when the pot feels light when I pick it up, which ends up being every 3 to 4 weeks. That one change turned it from a sad droopy mess into something I actually want people to see when they come over.

Less is definitely more with snake plants.
