Fellow gardener's tip about compost ratios totally flipped my raised beds
My neighbor Pat, who runs the community plot on 5th Street, kept telling me to stop adding kitchen scraps without browns. I ignored her for like 8 months because my pile smelled fine to me. Then last spring my tomato plants came out all leggy and yellow, so I finally tried her 2-to-1 brown to green ratio. Within 3 weeks the pile was steaming and my beds actually held moisture instead of turning into a crust. Now I measure everything with an old paint bucket, and Pat just laughs at me every time she sees me hauling cardboard. Has anyone else had a simple ratio fix turn their whole garden around?
