Update: the quiet guy in my book club finally spoke up and saved our whole pick for next week
So our little book club has been meeting at the library on Tuesdays for about 8 months now, and there's this one guy named Roger who hardly ever talks. Just nods and sips his coffee. Last week we were arguing about our next pick and everyone was pushing for this 600 page historical novel, and things were getting a little heated. Roger raised his hand real slow and said, 'I read that one in 2019. The first 200 pages are a slog and half the group quit.' Nobody knew he'd even read it. He then passed around a beat up paperback copy from his bag with his own notes in the margins. We ended up picking a shorter mystery instead and the whole room relaxed. I keep thinking about how much weight that one comment carried just because he never wastes words. Has anyone else had a quiet member drop one line that changed the whole vibe of the group?
