The one time my book club called me out for picking books that are way too long

After my third pick in a row clocked in over 500 pages, a quiet member named Denise finally said "can we read something under 300 for once" and now I actually check page counts before suggesting anything.

My buddy Craig had this same problem in his gaming group. He picked a 700 page fantasy novel and one guy fell asleep during the discussion twice. The next month another guy brought in a 100 page poetry book just to spite him. Craig got the message and now he sticks to books under 350 pages. That poetry book was actually really good too.
