Our club in Portland argued about 'The Goldfinch' for a full hour last month.
It started with one person calling the ending a cop-out, and the whole vibe got tense. Has your group ever had a book that split you right down the middle?

Yeah, the "unrealistic murder plot" thing for Crawdads is a big sticking point. I heard a podcast where a crime writer totally picked apart the forensics and said it would NEVER hold up in a real court. It kind of ruined the magic for me after that.

That "would NEVER hold up in a real court" part gets me. I used to just enjoy the story, but hearing it broken down like that? It does take the shine off a bit.

Oh man, did we ever fight over "Where the Crawdads Sing"? Half of us thought the nature writing was beautiful but the other half got so hung up on the murder plot feeling totally unrealistic. It got pretty heated over coffee.
