Our book club's 'no spoilers' rule destroyed our best discussion in 3 years

We were reading The Night Circus at the library in Portland and someone accidentally revealed the ending during our meeting. Instead of getting mad, I realized the whole conversation got way more interesting because we argued about whether the reveal was earned. Now our group of 8 has a new rule where we discuss endings BEFORE reading the final chapters. Has anyone else tried flipping the spoiler rule and found it sparks better debates?

Wait, does knowing the ending actually make you read the book differently in a good way? I tried this with a buddy after we both read the new Stephen King, and it was wild how much sharper the debate got. We argued about whether Annie Wilkes's whole deal was set up right from the start, not just whether the twist surprised us. It felt like we were reviewing the book as a craft, not just reacting to it, and now I kinda want to re-read stuff with spoilers on purpose.
