Hit 30 book club meetings in a row without a single person finishing the book
Our group has been meeting for about 2 years now. Last night was meeting number 30 and I realized nobody - including me - had actually finished the assigned book. We just show up, grab snacks, and argue about themes we half-remember from the first three chapters. Is this just how book clubs work or is my group uniquely lazy? Anyone else's club just turn into a social hour with loose book talk?

Feels like most things these days are just about showing up and pretending you did the work, like how everyone at work nods along in meetings about reports nobody actually read.

Man I feel so called out right now lol. I've definitely been that guy in a meeting nodding along about a spreadsheet I barely glanced at. I'm pretty sure half the reports I "review" are just me skimming the first page and then winging it during the discussion. The funny thing is everyone else is probably doing the same thing so we're all just pretending together.

Oh absolutely, I see that everywhere. It's like half the emails I get are people covering for the fact that nobody actually did what they said they would.
