I used to hoard every rulebook, now I toss half of them

For like 8 years I kept every manual and reference card that came with a game, even the ones I never touched again. My shelf in Denver was a mess of tiny folders and dog-eared pages. Then last month I got rid of about 60% of them for games I haven't opened since 2019, and honestly it feels great. The ones I actually need are the player aids from heavier games like Gloomhaven or Spirit Island, everything else is just googleable. Anyone else cut their collection down to just the essentials and regret waiting so long?

lmao I feel personally attacked by this because I still have a box of rulebooks from games I traded away years ago. Like, what am I even keeping them for, some kind of museum of board games I used to own? The real kicker is the games I do keep, I still look up rules on my phone half the time because my own notes are a disaster. The only thing I actually regret is not figuring out sooner that those little fold-out player aids are the real treasure, not the 40 page novels nobody reads. My shelf went from looking like a filing cabinet to actually having room for more games, so honestly, win.
