That 'quick question' email rule from a coworker, 5 years later

She said 'always answer the question before you explain, or people will stop reading' after I sent her a 6 paragraph update about a stockroom mess that just needed a yes or no. Now I write my reply first, then argue with myself if it needs more, and honestly it's cut my reply time down to like 2 minutes. Has anyone else had one tiny feedback line that stuck harder than any training course?

That bit about replying first then arguing with yourself if it needs more, that hit me. I had a buddy who used to send these giant essay texts whenever someone asked him anything, and one day his boss just replied "ok" to his wall of text and never read it. He started doing the same thing, answer up top, and now he says people actually respond to him instead of ghosting. Funny how one tiny line like that just rewires your whole brain, way more than any seminar ever did.
