Started tracking my 'no' rate at work and it hit 63 out of 100, which is way higher than I thought
I work at a dive bar in Toledo and got tired of feeling like I was always the bad guy, so I started marking a tally on a napkin every time I had to cut someone off or say no to a request. Last Thursday I counted up 3 weeks of napkins and 63 of the last 100 asks got a no. What surprised me is that my tips barely moved, which tells me people mostly respect a straight answer over a maybe. The napkin thing sounds dumb but it made me realize I was guessing at my own job instead of just watching it. Anyone else ever actually count how often they say no, and did the number match what you figured?
