My mechanic in Tulsa said my 2011 Corolla is worth keeping, and now I think buying new cars is a total scam
I took my car in for an oil change at 187,000 miles and fully expected him to tell me it was time to let it go. He laughed and said the transmission on those old Corollas usually outlives the driver if you change the fluid every 60k. He also said new car payments are the single dumbest thing people do with their money, and that most of his customers come in stressed about $600 payments on cars sitting in his shop. That hit me hard because I almost signed a 72 month loan on a $34,000 SUV 6 months ago just because my car looked old. Now I'm saving that $550 a month and my beater still starts every single morning in Oklahoma ice. Anyone else got a mechanic who talks them out of spending money on purpose?
