Why does nobody mention how much quieter a well-tuned anvil is?

I spent 6 months hammering on an anvil with a dead ring before I finally wedged a chain under the heel and now my shop sounds like a library and my neighbors actually talk to me again, has anyone else noticed how much ring affects your hammer control?

My neighbor ran a grinder for 30 years without a chain and never had a complaint.
