Stumbled on a stat yesterday about how much a single forge fire uses in oxygen per hour

That "oxygen per hour" bit really got me thinking. I remember hearing once about how a single candle flame consumes a surprising amount of air, like more than you'd think for something so small. It made me wonder if my blacksmith buddy ever feels lightheaded when he's really cranking his forge for a long session. He says it's just the heat that gets to him, but I'm not so sure. Wouldn't it be wild to calculate exactly how much of that forge fire is eating up the whole workshop's air supply?

Crack a window or run a fan if you're in a small shop. That's the fix. I've watched guys get stupid after a few hours with the door shut. They get all foggy and slow, then wonder why. A forge eats air faster than most people realize, especially the big propane ones. Get a CO detector too, cheap insurance. Better than passing out mid swing.
