Just realized I was burning up my anvil face from bad hammer technique
Kept getting these weird scale marks and dings even on mild steel projects, then an old timer at a shop in Knoxville watched me for 5 minutes and pointed out I was hitting at a slight angle instead of square. Has anyone else fixed a basic habit like that and seen a huge difference in tool wear?

Man that's exactly what happened with me and my grinder technique. Night and day difference.

My buddy Tom fixed his angle after 18 years of swinging wrong. Said his hammers started lasting twice as long and his anvil face quit looking like a waffle iron.

Isnt it funny how something that simple can make such a big difference? I mean 18 years is a long time to be swinging wrong. You gotta wonder how many years Tom spent thinking his tools were just cheap junk when really it was all in the mechanics. Its like driving a car with the parking brake on for a decade and then suddenly figuring out how to release it.
