Pro tip: I fixed a seized seatpost with a heat gun after everyone said to just cut it out

The aluminum was bonded to the steel frame, so I applied heat for 30 seconds and it twisted free with a pipe wrench. Has anyone else had luck with heat on stuck parts, or is this a bad idea for carbon frames?

Glad it worked for you but that's a risky move. Heating aluminum stuck in steel can weaken the frame if you get it too hot. You definitely don't want to try this on a carbon frame, the resin will fail. Next time try a penetrating oil and some patience first.

Ever tried heating just the aluminum part with a small torch? It expands faster than steel so you can break the bond without cooking the whole frame. Still, oil and time is the safer bet for sure.

Heard a mechanic say aluminum can actually fuse to steel if you overheat it. That torch trick seems like a good way to make a simple problem way worse. Just use the oil and save yourself the headache.
