Dropped $85 on a park tool wheel truing stand and my $12 spoke wrench did the same job
So I finally broke down and bought a nice wheel truing stand for my home setup. I wrench on bikes for friends and a few paying customers out of my garage in Portland, and I figured a real stand would speed things up. Spent $85 on it plus another $20 on a dishing tool because everyone online said you need one. Fast forward two weekends and I'm truing a rear wheel for a buddy, and I realize I'm barely using the stand's fancy features. The little $12 spoke wrench I've had forever plus a zip tie on the fork leg was doing 90% of the work. The stand is nice, sure, but I could've saved that money and put it toward a better torque wrench. Has anyone else bought pro gear before their skill actually needed it, or am I just bad at knowing when to upgrade?
