Rant: customer argued with me about a simple tire patch for 20 minutes
Had a lady come into my shop last Tuesday with a slow leak in her front passenger tire. I showed her the nail, quoted her $25 for a patch, and she insisted I was trying to upsell her because her husband said 'plug it yourself.' Took me way too long to explain that a plug from the outside is just a bandaid and a patch from the inside is the real fix. Has anyone else dealt with customers who think they know your trade better than you do?

Patience works better than arguing, honestly.

Build on that patience idea but with a practical angle. I let them talk themselves out sometimes. If they want to argue for 20 minutes about a patch, I just nod and say "okay" until they run out of steam. Usually they come back around when they realize I'm not gonna budge or get mad. The real trick is not taking it personal when they question your work. They're probably just trying to save a few bucks or listen to bad advice from someone who thinks they know better. Patience works but only if you don't let them drag you into a debate about technique.
