A blast from the past customer visit today
Everything's so rushed these days compared to when I started. Having someone from way back stop in really cheered me up.

Maybe the rush is what keeps things moving forward though. Getting more done in less time means we can serve more people overall. That old pace might have been nice for chats, but it could also mean less progress and fewer chances for everyone. Efficiency isn't always a bad thing, it just changes what the job looks like. Holding onto the past can make it harder to see the good stuff about how we work now.

Thursday afternoon and this regular from maybe 2012 just walks in, totally out of the blue. It was such a weirdly nice change from the usual blur of faces. We actually stood there and talked for twenty minutes, which feels illegal now. Makes you miss when business had room for that stuff, instead of everything being a race to the finish line. Now we're all just speed-running our jobs and probably forgetting our own names.
