The museum label rewrite that made me question my whole field trip approach

Took my nephew to the natural history museum in Austin last weekend. The new labels on the dinosaur bones don't mention the messy debates about whether T. rex was a scavenger or hunter. They just say 'apex predator' like it's settled. I get that kids need simple info, but I remember when a docent told our class the whole fight behind that idea, and it's what got me into paleontology for a summer. Now they're dumbing it down to avoid any pushback. Is there a way to teach kids the controversy without turning every exhibit into a disclaimer? Has anyone else noticed this shift? Also, what do you do when the truth is more interesting than the safe version?
