The day my private browser history got reviewed by my boss in Portland

Three months ago I was working a remote gig and used the company laptop for a side project about conspiracy theories on historical events. My manager in Portland called me into a video meeting and read out the exact URLs I visited, including a deep dive on JFK's autopsy photos. I froze for a second, then admitted I was researching a banned topic for a forum post, not selling secrets. He laughed and said the IT flag was automatic, but he had to ask. Now I keep a $40 burner tablet for anything outside approved topics. Has anyone else had their search history exposed in a way that turned into an awkward HR talk? That moment where you realize not even your private tabs are private, right?
