DAE think the whole 'learn to code' push was a scam dressed up as advice
Back in 2019 I had a choice: take a $12,000 loan for a 12 week bootcamp in Austin or keep doing manual labor for $17 an hour. I picked the bootcamp because everyone from my cousin to a guy on a podcast said coding was the only real future. Two years later I was $12k in debt, applying to 340 jobs, and got exactly 4 callbacks. Meanwhile the crew I left behind was making $26 an hour and nobody was asking them to whiteboard a binary tree. Now I pressure wash driveways in San Antonio and clear more in a good week than I did in a month of junior dev applications. I want to know if the 'just learn to code' line was always about selling the dream or if some of you actually made it work.
