Changed my mind on overdraft fees after my card got declined at a Baltimore gas station
I used to think overdraft fees were just a scam, but last Tuesday my card got hit with a $35 fee when I was $12 short at the pump, and the bank actually reversed it after I called. Watching the rep pull up my account and see I'd been with them 9 years made me realize the fee isn't always automatic if you just ask. Has anyone else had luck getting one reversed, or is it hit or miss depending on who picks up?
That line about being with them 9 years hit home for me. I had almost the exact same thing happen at a Wawa outside Philly, I was maybe $8 short and got the $35 fee, called in ready to argue, and the guy looked at my history and took it right off. Took maybe 6 minutes on the phone total. I've heard it's way more hit or miss if you're newer or if you've had a few of them already, but long time customers seem to get more slack. Worth a quick call every time before you just eat the fee.
