TIL a weird trick for fixing a cracked cheesecake top

I was pulling a classic New York cheesecake out of the oven last night and saw a huge crack right down the middle. Instead of just letting it cool, I grabbed a warm offset spatula and smoothed the surface like I was icing a cake while it was still hot. It actually melted the top layer just enough to seal the crack. Has anyone else tried something like this, or is there a better fix you use?

That warm spatula trick is a solid move, I've done it before and it works.

Yeah, that trick saved me last winter. My windshield was a solid sheet of ice and my scraper broke. Heated up a metal spatula on the stove, kept it moving so it wouldn't crack the glass. It slid right under the ice layer and popped the whole thing off in one piece. Felt like a genius.

Man, the warm spatula trick sounds way smarter than my brilliant idea of pouring hot coffee on my frozen windshield. Learned that lesson real quick.
