Took my family to see 'Battlefield Earth' and I actually liked it

Went into this one expecting a total trainwreck. Everyone online calls it the worst movie ever. But me and my buddy sat down last Saturday and watched the whole thing. The cheesy acting and weird plot twists just made it hilarious. We were laughing more than at most comedies. Maybe I'm crazy, but does anyone else find bad sci-fi oddly fun?

Exactly right. That alien council scene is the gift that keeps on giving. Once you realize it's not trying to be a serious movie, that whole sequence goes from cringey to comedy gold real fast.

Man, you might be onto something. Used to think this movie was just a complete waste of time, didn't get the hype at all. But catching it with a buddy who kept cracking jokes totally flipped my view. The part where Travolta yells at the alien council and they all just stare at him dumbfounded had us in tears. It's like a bad action movie you watch at 2am, you know? The whole thing is so over the top it loops around to being entertaining instead of terrible.

God, I've been there so many times... the key is finding the right person to watch it with. My brother and I have this whole ritual now where we pick the worst movies on purpose and just tear into them the whole time. That Travolta alien council scene is gold for that kind of thing, no joke. You gotta lean into the cheesiness, it's like a secret handshake for bad movie fans.
