Question about Batman and Robin, I walked out of the theater in 1997 and just watched it again last month
I hated this movie for over 25 years after seeing it at a theater in Sacramento when I was 14, and I only gave it another shot because my kid picked it off the shelf at a used store for $3. The thing that flipped it for me was watching it as a straight up cartoon instead of a real movie. Once I stopped waiting for it to take itself seriously, the awful ice puns and the neon everything turned into the funniest 2 hours I have had in a while. Has anyone else had a movie they swore off for decades that got way better once they stopped expecting it to be good?
Did you ever go back to a movie you hated as a kid and find out it was actually fun the whole time? I totally get this because I used to rant about how bad Batman and Robin was for years, like it was some personal insult to me. Then a buddy put it on during a party and we all just laughed at how over the top everything was, the freeze puns, the crazy neon, Uma Thurman chewing every bit of scenery. Once I stopped holding it up next to the dark serious Batman movies, it became this weird little comedy that I honestly look forward to now. It is wild how much your mood and what you expect going in can change the whole thing.
