Two years of filing invoices wrong, my supervisor finally said something

I worked at a logistics office in Nashville and for two years I filed every invoice by the vendor's name. Turns out the whole team files by the client account number. My supervisor only mentioned it when I asked her to grab a specific file and she stared at me for a solid ten seconds. I felt like an absolute idiot for 24 months of misfiled paperwork. Has anyone else discovered a basic work habit they had totally backwards for ages?

lol I actually see this differently. You filed by vendor name for two years and nobody complained, which means everyone could still find stuff when they needed it. The system worked, just not the "right" system. I've been on teams where the official filing method was a mess and everyone just used their own weird shortcuts to get by. Your supervisor staring at you says more about her not saying anything for two years than it does about you being wrong. Honestly, if the files were findable, you were doing your job. The client number thing is just a preference, not a law of physics.
