Serious question, how do you handle a gift that breaks the same day you get it?
My sister gave me a ceramic soup bowl last Christmas that had a tiny crack painted over with glaze, and I did not notice until I poured hot chili in it at dinner. The whole bottom fell out onto my lap in front of 9 people at my parents house in Fresno. I grabbed the bowl pieces, stuck them in a ziplock bag, and taped the receipt she left in the box to the front so I would not lose it. Two days later I texted her a photo of the bag with the words "engineering report" and she laughed so hard she called me. Now we have a rule that any gift under $15 gets a live demo before it comes home. What is your move when a gift falls apart right away, do you tell them or just quietly toss it?
